Case Study #1 – “Louie” is a Thoroughbred gelding that has suffered from low heels (underslung heels), sheared heels, poor balance and overall inadequate shoeing techniques.
Case Study #2 – “Erick” is a Morgan stallion with excessive flaring at the sides of his hooves – he has gone for a length of time without shoes and his feet did spread out quite a bit. We had been working on his feet for a period of time and at the posting of this he had been in a program for a short period.
Case Study #3 – “Trigger” is a horse that just needs quality shoeing and balancing of this feet. He also is a perfect example of what happens when horses feet are neglected and not kept on a regular schedule.
Case Study #4 - “Brownie” is a Throughbred gelding that has a history of racing on the California race tracks. He was retired from the track and is being readied for pleasure work, he developed a gravel that became more advanced and progressed into a quarter crack. Again a case of improper balance makeing a rather simple situation more advanced.
Case Study #4 Update - This is a follow-up on “Brownie”.
Case Study # 5 - ”Pretty Boy” is a Tennessee Walking Horse that has been shown at various levels of the show world. He is shod both flat and light for the show ring. In the past his foot care has been on a regular basis, he is a horse that has done very well in the show ring, but the trainer has felt that the horse had more inside of him to give, but it was never able to be released. What was hoped for here was the ability of the horse to totally relaxand let the last bit out so that he might get to even higher realization of his talent.
Case # 5 Update - This is a follow-up on “Pretty Boy”.
Case Study #6 - ”Ranger” is a Paint Horse that has had quite a show record with many wins, but has a nagging problem with both front feet, he has a re-occuring problem with “quarter cracks” on the inside of both front feet. Although Ranger has never shown any indication of pain or tenderness it can lead to many additional and serious problems both internally and externally with any and all feet that have this particular problem. Due to the demands of the showring is is an all too common problem that farriers face today.
Case Study #7 - ”Sweetie” is a mare that had one foot longer than the other and could not get around very well for quite a period of time.
Case Study # 8 - ”Bo” is a gelding that I have been shoeing for some time, close to a year and I have not been able to get a good growth of heel under the left front foot. There is a slight problem with the right front foot as well.
Case Study #9 - “Belle” is a brood mare that has a tendency to wear her toes excessively and has always had a balance problem that has lead to lameness issues. Here I added a 1/2 or toe shoe to help her along.
Case Study # 10 - ”Rawleigh” is a 20 year old Arabian gelding that has suffered from an accute case of founder and has extreme rotation of the coffin bone as well. I had shod him two times with some degree of success; at that time the decision was made to preform a “Deep Digital Flexor Tenotomy” to give hima additional relief. The surgery was preformed on both front legs at the same time. The field surgery was preformed by Dr. Dave Valcheck, DVM.
Case Study #10 Update - This is a follow-up on “Rawleigh”.
